| | amused | ] | Got my pig 'flu jab on Saturday, which laid me out for three days! A new personal best there :) As you have no doubt noticed, I have been very bad at updating my LJ (truth be told, I've been very bad at *reading* LJ) and have managed to acquire a new cat without posting any pictures of her. This is easily fixed:

Behold the three legged monster known as Cassidy. She's only one and a bit, so prone to playful biting, but she's a sweetie really. We got her from the local RSPCA a few weeks ago and she's settling in nicely. |

In the name of improving my running, I've moved from the gym to the park. It's much harder, but more rewarding. There's obstacles and everything! And always something different, today there were a group of casual alcoholics on a park bench, quietly drinking from paper bags. I was a little concerned that they might cause trouble, right up to the point where they cheered me on each lap :) Legs hurt now, tomorrow will be a rest day, but on Monday I have TOIL and intend to saunter around Cadair Idris. Weather doesn't look particularly clever, so there may or may not be photos...
In the meantime, here's some locks;

Meanwhile, good news! The Best Western Frensham Pond has usable & free wifi in public areas with comfy chairs :)
Bad news, I'm surrounded by 'B' roads and lanes. The forecast of heavy snow for tonight might make tomorrows trip to Camberley a little more challenging than I had hoped... |

| | chipper | ] | It's a constant wonder to me just how much beauty there is in the world, mere moments from my everyday life. On Saturday I took advantage of the weather and cycled over to Marshfield (there's a rusting combine in a field that needs it's picture taken regularly. Best not ask really). On the way back I noticed this scene, literally ten meters from the main road:

I was awestruck, this is the road I use every day on my commute to work and never noticed it before. I slowly pootled home investigating every lane and track just in case hidden wonders lay at the end :) |

| | chipper | ] | It was Doors Open day in Bristol this Saturday, we took advantage of the second nice day this year to wander in Redcliffe caves before stopping off in Obentos for lunch and wandering back to Redcliffe to go on the roof of the cathedral. We had to hang around for a bit while they located the guide, but the vistas were well worth the wait! So glad we made it this time -all the other years we've managed to miss it, and I know that there's plenty more good stuff to see next year. Finished off the day with a BBQ -again, second of the year, you have to grab these opportunities when they appear :) |

| | sleepy | ] | We're all safely back from our travels and C14 experience, and we both had a great time. I must admit to initially having a few doubts about C14 in the heat of a Floridian Summer, but these were soon put to rest after discovering that *everywhere* is air-conned, and the evenings cool down sufficiently to wander around dressed to the nines if you liked :) Unfortunately due to over sleeping I missed the goths on ice event, but everything I did manage to get to was brilliant, many thanks to the C14 team for putting on a great event and to all the attendees for being such a lovely bunch of people. I firmly believe that more goth events should be held in facilities like this:
 Palm trees for teh win.
Of course, having acclimatised to sub-tropical conditions, I am not impressed with the weather back in the UK. When we got off the plane at Heathrow I walked past an icy blast that I put down to over air-conditioning. On closer inspection, someone had just left a window open... |

Looks like we brought a heatwave with us to the Carolinas, apparently it should be 10oF cooler. Fortunately they have aircon and beer. Unfortunately the Daysinn neglected to include a bottle opener in the kitchenette. Once again the internet has come to the rescue, a couple of months ago I laughed at the video of some bloke opening a beer with a newspaper. Well, here I am with a cold one thanks to USA Today... |

| Traversing Florida |
[Jul. 30th, 2008|09:20 pm] |
Currently in St Augustine taking in the sights and blueberry beer (tasty and surprisingly potent at 8%). It is not terribly hot, but the humidity makes it feel uncomfortable at times. However I am slowly acclimatising. The afternoon thunderstorms are good fun and clear the air. So far we've driven from Miami to Key West and then back on up here. Amusingly, having traveled over 450 miles north, only now are we approaching the Deep South :)

| | Some dodgy Pink Floyd track... | ] | I think I'm in the right timezone now, tho it may be the melatonin speaking. The (unscheduled1) Canada trip was wonderful, the wedding went smoothly, the pig roast was a blast, Maid of the Mist was much more fun then I'd expeced, the MacBook was fixed (TO Apple store are teh r0x0rs2), and I only broke one thing3!
Many thanks to the usual suspects, but particular thanks go to Axel & Siobhan and Steph & Martin for feeding us and putting up with us respectively.
Only a week and a bit before Florida & Convergence, I am environmentally fucking jetset! In the meantime:
 Pig roast, we has it.
1 Long story, let's just say that my presence became mandatory at the last minute.
2 "Why do you think you've blown you warranty? Oh no sir, so long as you don't break it, you can disassemble your laptop and aimlessly fiddle with the failing wireless card as much as you like. We'll replace that for you free of charge." That's the sort of attitude that makes you a customer for life...
3 Turns out that there is such a thing as too much coffee, once again, apologies to Martin & Steph :) |

I am a sad tourist. Yesterday I dragged Jodi and her Parents onto the Maid of the Mist at Niagara. It may be cheesy tourism, but it's also the most spectacular 15 minutes on a boat I've ever had :)

Last time we were here it was the end of November and not nearly so cheerful by the falls. |

| | exhausted | ] | Beautiful day yesterday. I rashly did 46 miles on the bike, and have been left with mild radiation burns and muscle cramp in both sets of quadriceps. However, I managed a nice shot of my fave local viaduct;

In other news, the passport dept came up gold, and I shall be going to Canada :) |

Tho I did get the opportunity to re-pot my chillies and plant out the last of the oregano in the garden. I'm seriously considering just growing herbs in the garden, at least it would smell nice :) |

Did I mention that Tabs really likes his boxes?

Of course, most cats like to sit in the box...

Does anyone know of a place in/around Bristol where I could get a glass lense filter cut into 27mm diameter circles? |

So, I finally got around to converting my old Fuji F30 to infrared:

That'll do nicely. I am now no longer dependent on 10kgs worth of SLRs & lenses for my photography needs :) |
